Revolut Friend Used Account CIFAS Marker Removal
Friend used account for payments, Misuse of Facility marker filed by Revolut. Removed in 3 weeks.

How Revolut files CIFAS markers when friends use your account
Our client let a friend use their Revolut account to receive payments that had been described as legitimate, money from a sale, support transfers or funds linked to an ordinary personal arrangement. The account holder was not treating the account as a criminal tool. They believed they were helping somebody they trusted.
From Revolut's side, however, the payment pattern looked like a standard funds-received case. Once incoming transfers started landing from outside sources, the account was frozen and a Misuse of Facility marker followed. The dispute then turned on the point many of these cases hinge on, not whether the money moved, but whether the account holder knew they were being used for fraud.
What the CIFAS report showed about this Revolut marker
The report confirmed a Misuse of Facility marker, with funds received and conduct unexplained, filed by Revolut. The evidence basis was listed as the firm's own records, which in practice usually means internal monitoring of the transactions rather than independent proof of what the customer knew.
That was the obvious weakness here. The report captured suspicious movement, but it did not explain why the account holder should be treated as dishonest rather than as somebody who had misplaced trust in a friend. It described the pattern well enough, but the state-of-mind evidence was thin.
How we challenged this Revolut friend-used-account CIFAS marker
The complaint focused on knowledge, trust and proof. We did not deny that the account had been used. Instead, we explained why the customer believed the arrangement was legitimate, how the friend had presented the payments and why that distinction mattered when deciding whether a fraud marker was justified.
That pushed Revolut back onto the evidential question it still had to answer. A CIFAS filing requires more than showing that somebody else's money passed through the account. It requires a basis for saying the account holder acted dishonestly. Once the case was framed that way, the marker became far harder to defend.
How this Revolut friend-used-account CIFAS marker was removed
Revolut reviewed the complaint and accepted that the evidence did not demonstrate dishonesty by the account holder.
The marker was removed within three weeks and the client was able to resume ordinary banking. For people in similar situations, the case is a warning about letting others use your account, but it is also a reminder that poor judgment and misplaced trust are not automatically the same thing as fraud.
